Workflow: AWS EC2 Instance Risk Assessment

AWS EC2 Security Risk Assessment with AI Automate AWS Security Checks Using GRiPO

Problem Introduction

AWS EC2 instances can introduce security risks when their configurations don’t follow best practices. Unencrypted storage, missing IAM instance profiles, and exposed network access can all increase security concerns. Security teams need to review instance states, public IP addresses, metadata settings, IAM profiles, security groups, and attached volume encryption. Checking these manually takes time and makes it harder to prioritize issues.

How GRiPO Helps You in This Situation

The challenge isn’t having different tools, it’s getting them to work together. When the output of one system has to feed another for analysis, action, or AI insights, teams end up moving data manually, maintaining custom scripts, or building complex ETL pipelines. GRiPO Flow connects these tools into a single workflow where data, insights, AI analysis, and actions flow between systems automatically, reducing manual effort.

GRiPO Solution

Jev is a System One model designed to make fast, structured decisions. Instead of generating text, it returns a defined decision that can be used directly for routing and automated actions. GRiPO supports jev as a plugin. In this workflow:

  • On-Demand Trigger: runs the assessment whenever the team needs to review their AWS resources.
  • EC2 Data: retrieves instance information using the instance ID and region, covering instance state, public IP address, metadata settings, IAM profile, security group rules, and attached volume encryption.
  • AI Context: organizes the data into a structured context for jev.
  • Jev Noul: evaluates the context and returns a structured decision, which is passed to AI Assessment.
  • AI Assessment: uses the EC2 information and jev’s decision to generate an assessment with risk score, key findings, missing evidence, and areas requiring analyst attention.
  • NewEmailEvent: sends an email notification with the assessment results.
  • Slack Alert: sends the assessment to the configured Slack channel.

Automated AWS EC2 Instance Risk Assessment

The workflow runs on demand. It collects EC2 instance data, prepares the AI context, uses jev to make a structured decision, generates an AI assessment, and sends the results by email and Slack. In the example run, the report shows a risk score of 0.33. The instance is stopped, has no public IP, requires IMDSv2 tokens, and has no inbound rules open to the world. However, the attached storage volume is unencrypted, and the report flags missing evidence related to networking, the IAM profile, and resource lookups.
